Art Central Encounters

I am very honoured to receive VIP ticket to Art Central 2019 as guest of Asia Society. I attended the First Night of this reputed art festival on 26 March, 2019.

“3/4[DESIRE] + ♡ ↔ 2/3[PASSION]”
“How far is too far? How close to the line are you willing to go?”

These lines caught my eye right away as I entered the fair, then I saw a man writing equations gracefully on a spaceman sculpture from afar. Curiosity sparked an intriguing conversation with contemporary artist Brendan Murphy, who shared his inspirations of creation. The spaceman is stepping into the unknown, which often means growth. I asked how Brendan came up with the equations, he said life is liquid, it is natural for him to express emotions through his art. He told me, this spaceman will be his favourite piece when he finishes it.

Paintings by Japanese artist Kuk-won Woo were another highlight for me. Though I wasn’t lucky enough to meet him in person, I resonate so much with his philosophy after reading his biography and interviews – “Being fully aware of the present, residing faithfully in the moment away from endless and pointless self-analysis, is undoubtedly the secret to a fulfilling and happy life.”
