Lean In. Voice Out.
Happy International Women’s Day to all wonderful girls and women! A special tribute to these women leaders I honour, ranging from youth female climate leaders, women representatives at the UN, indigenous women activists, women ministers/scholars/media workers and many many more!
I took the occasion to re-read the powerful “Lean In” (2013) by Sheryl Sandberg. Echoed by Sheryl’s companion, Nobel Peace Laureate Leymah Gbowee, “more women in power” is the key to raise women’s voice in the society to address their needs and concerns.
“The promise of equality is not the same as true equality”. This line struck me hard. After almost a decade, can we proudly say that gender equality has been achieved? What about racial, climate, religious and cultural justice?
As Sheryl concluded, we need to be grateful for the progress made but remain dissatisfied with the status quo, which spurs the charge for change. The march towards true equality continues, until we see a world where everyone can find their true passions and lean in.
