Opening up about my climate story

What’s your climate story? How did it all start?

I was inspired by a Hong Kong woman polar explorer Dr Rebecca Lee when we interviewed her for a project on “Climate Change – What can we do?” in primary five. Her analogy of climate change, that the earth is trapped in a microwave, sparked my environmentalism.

It is truly rewarding to reunite with Dr Lee after all these years, and she’s still actively educating students, elderly about the climate crisis through talks, workshops, ecotours, and even radio drama.

“This is exhausting, but it’s worth it.” Dr Lee has been aspiring to build a climate change museum for 26 years to showcase her collection from polar expeditions.

When she was about to give up, Prof Sung from CUHK was touched by her story at a lecture and offered help to realise her mission. That was the time she shared the detailed museum layout, floorplan that she drafted over the past 26 years, turning them from vision to reality. When there’s a will, there’s a way.

Thank you for Dr Lee’s continuous contribution to the climate field, which is a never-ending battle. We will carry her spirit and pass it on.
