“We failed to show that we have responded with purpose and the urgency to limit warming to 1.5 degrees”, said Samoa, representing small island states at the recent June UN Climate Conference SB60 which just closed.
Clearly, we are not doing enough.
RTHK’s latest four-part TV documentary entitled “Climate Insight (氣候全面體)” explores the crucial topics of climate change mitigation and adaptation through the unique lens of Pacific Islanders in Fiji, complemented with ESG insights from COP28 in UAE.
In the first two episodes, we tell the stories of Fiji, a Pacific Island Country at the forefront of climate change mitigation and adaptation, facing the challenges posed by extreme weather events and rising sea levels. From traditional nature-based sea walls in Malo Malo Village to the introduction of solar power in a rural village through the efforts of the UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji, each episode is filled with inspiring stories that will prompt us to rethink our behaviour.
We also had the honour to interview H.E. Mr Zhou Jian, Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, to learn about green belt and road initiatives on promoting renewable energy between China and Fiji.
In the upcoming two episodes on 15 June and 22 June, our documentary explores the international sphere, featuring discussions on COP28 negotiations in Dubai, linking them to the importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives in Hong Kong with expert and youth round table discussions.
“Climate Insight” is broadcasted on RTHK Channel 31 in Cantonese every Saturday on June 1, 8, 15, and 22, 2024, at 8:30 PM. The episodes can also be revisited on the RTHK website and YouTube.
