Preparation for Antarctic Climate Exhibition in collaboration with the Museum of Climate Change

After months-long preparation, I am launching my exhibition entitled “Climate Witness: Changing Polar Landscapes”. The exhibition aims to highlight the impact of climate change on the Antarctic landscapes. This is my first initiative as the Museum of Climate Change Scholar, where I worked closely with the Museum of Climate Change team, Dr. Rebecca Lee and Dr. Wilson Cheung on the curation. The exhibition will shed light on the environmental transformations occurring in the polar regions.

The focal point of the exhibition will be the Antarctic Climate Expedition, which I participated in February 2023 as a Key Opinion Ambassador and Steering Committee Member. The exhibition will showcase the effects of climate change on the polar landscapes, such as ice sheets covered with green algae and the struggles of penguins in extreme weather conditions. These visual representations will serve as evidence of the profound impact that climate change has had on these delicate ecosystems.

To bring these stories to life, the exhibition will feature video footage from three prominent explorers: marine biologist Dr. Sylvia Earle, whale scientist Dr. Olaf Meynecke, and filmmaker Mr. Craig Leeson. Their experiences and observations will provide firsthand accounts of the changes occurring in the Antarctic.

Adding a historical perspective to the exhibition, Dr. Lee’s photographs and sketches from her expeditions to the North Pole and South Pole over 20 years ago will be interwoven with the contemporary displays. This intergenerational dialogue will allow visitors to witness the stark environmental transformations that have taken place over the decades. By focusing on the perspectives of women explorers, the exhibition aims to emphasize the role of diverse voices in understanding and addressing climate change.

The launch ceremony for “Climate Witness: Changing Polar Landscapes” is scheduled on December 16, from 4 to 5 pm HKT at the Museum of Climate Change, located on the 8th floor of the YIA building at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Interested individuals are encouraged to RSVP with the curator via direct message or WhatsApp. For those unable to attend the launch, the exhibition will be open to the public during the Museum’s regular opening hours. Further information can be found on the Museum of Climate Change website.

The exhibition is curated by the Museum of Climate Change Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Office at The Chinese University of Hong Kong as part of the 60th Anniversary of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is supported by Ocean Geographic and V’air Sustainability Education as exhibition partners. Canon Hong Kong is the camera partner, providing the necessary equipment to capture the stunning visuals showcased in the exhibition.
